"Islam showed itself to be culturally friendly and, in that regard, has been likened to a crystal clear river. Its waters (Islam) are pure, sweet, and life-giving but, having no color of their own, reflect the bedrock (indigenous culture) over which they flow. In China, Islam looked Chinese; in Mali, it looked African. Sustained cultural relevance to distinct peoples, diverse places, and different times underlay Islam’s long success as a global civilization."

WTF is this shit?

Not seeing what’s confusing about it..

Well, I’m Muslim. And as a Muslim, I see this as offensive. I don’t care if you’re atheist or not. Or if someone believes in hell or not. What I do care about is this blatant disrespect of Islam, with a lack of education about its teachings.

I can understand being upset about the inflammatory remarks (hence them being inflammatory), but with all respect to you as a person, whether or not you consider Islam to be a violent religion or not doesn’t change the objective fact that it is. The Quran preaches (and I’m not trying to single out Muslims, the Bible is just as bad) violence against non-believers, and this sign, while you may call it extreme and radical, is likely just strict adherence and strong faith.

I can’t argue with you that Islam does not advocate any sort of violence. That would be a blatant lie. What we are taught though (and this is what the Quran teaches us) is that we could fight in self defense (and there’s always a ‘and to forgive is better’ rule to all self defense). Also, many of the Quranic verses that can be interpreted as violence needs to be put in a historical context, as in being revealed at a certain time to the Prophet when he was attacked. It does not necessarily have much relevance to today. But we are given the right to self defense. The sign is the mans personal opinion, and yes, it is extremely crazy. Would he be able to prove it in the Quran that ‘those against Islam must be beheaded’? No. I’ve read the Quran and studied Islamic history plenty of times to know that being against Islam or not liking it does not warrant any violence.

Wait. I don’t understand this. Or at least I don’t want to. So 9/11 happened because of religion as opposed to  a few extremists? That we’d still have the towers if we didn’t have ‘religion’ which in this equation means Islam? Because as a Muslim I can assure you a million and one times that this is not Islam but a small group of men. So don’t imagine ‘no religion’, but imagine a world where religion [and all its followers] weren’t blamed and foreign policies don’t give a few crazy people a motive to want to hurt others.
